Gene Gene, the Dancing Machine

YES!!!!! One of my favorite shows of childhood, and one of my favorite segments. Ah, the sweet fond memories!

Now if I could JUST find one of the "Growla Hand" -- that used to scare the living bejeezus out of my brother. >:-D

My dear (clap!) Kate/Susan (clap!):

You were, if I (clap!) may be perfectly (clap!) honest, too young (clap!) to remember (clap!) The Gong Show (clap!)

It ran from 1976 to 1980, and it was truly one of the most bizarre - and downright funniest - programs ever to be seen on daytime TV.

Chuck Barris, who hosted it, also served as Producer, Creator and Owner. Barris is the guy who gave the world The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game in the '60s.

He hated being on camera, and developed a nervous habit of clapping his hands while speaking - it became a joke, where the audience clapped along with him. Sometimes he'd stop halfway just to mess with 'em.

You might already know some of this, but in case you don't.....

BTW, GGTDM started out as a janitor backstage -- Barris noticed he had a way about dancing while he worked ... and an unlikely legend was born. "Gene" would appear every now and again between the various acts.

I miss that show.
